Hi all!
My 5-month old kitten, Monty, has been on Tresaderm ear drops for ear infections recently. The first round, he was on the drops for 10 days (2 drops every 12 hours). The infection seemingly cleared up, and he was off them for about a week. When I took him back in for a check up for other reasons (GI issues), I mentioned he had been scratching his ears again, and his ear swab came back as positive for another infection. So, now, Monty has been on Tresaderm drops again for about 7 days (4 drops every 12 hours), with 3 more days to go.
Unfortunately, I am noticing that the stickiness of the ear drops (residue gathers around his ears--its unavoidable) is causing some of the hair behind his little ears to matte. The matted areas seem to be causing him to shed little chunks of hair in that area. I'm going to start cleaning and brushing that area regularly, but I am not sure if that will work necessarily. Also, I'm going to try to get some pictures of his ears (there aren't any similar threads/pics of his issue on the site), but its super hard since he's such an active little guy.
This is my first kitten and, since Monty has not shed in the past until now, I guess my question is--do kittens suddenly begin shedding as they get older, and the matting behind his ears is just making natural shedding more evident, or, is it likely that the Tresaderm is causing the shedding itself? Any help is very much appreciated!
Edit: Monty was great and let me take pictures really easily!
