HI all,
In short; during a walk on a Saturday in the autumn of 2013 we found a stray kitten of like 6 weeks old in a forest cabin, 1km away from any houses. We took him home to feed him (he was starving), called the shelters and police to announce the cat we found in case anyone reported the kitten missing. On Monday we went to the vet to check if he was chipped (negative) and again called the shelters and police to inform we kept the kitten without chip. We never received any call anyone was looking for the kitten.
Fast forward winter 2016, in a Facebook group of a neighbour village today I saw a photo of an adult cat that looks like my cat. Someone reports this cat as "walking around, whose cat is this?"
Someone answered: Does this cat has a bended broken tail?
Now, my cat has a bended broken tail, had it has since we found him as a kitten. This adult cat looks a lot like my cat.
I have a feeling this person is the original owner of my cat.
I want to contact him to let him know his cat is in good hands and didn't die, but I do not want to "give him his cat back".
What is the right thing to do? Can he legally take his cat back?
Thanks all,
Tom
