Not long after we got Tom, I noticed a wee scab on his neck, the sort that comes with rough playing, I thought. It then grew and spread and his hair came off and his skin began to look very sore and weepy. The first vet gave him steroid cream and antibiotics. I really felt that this would destroy our new bonding, as poor Tom was beginning to get upset every time I picked him up. I needn't have worried, thankfully, as he now purrs as soon as he catches our eyes, and even more so when we pick him up.
Anyway, I took him off the fish version of the foods he was getting - James Wellbeloved dry food during the day, and tinned food (not JW) at night, as I thought it might be a fish allergy. The problem continued, however, and the second vet thought it was a flea allergy, as she saw flea eggs on his coat. So he was treated for fleas. He doesn't have a bald neck anymore, but he's still scabby under his fur. Does anyone know of a safe-for-cats cream I can use? I certainly don't want him to go back on steroids...
Here he is, before the problems began...
