Tolly is having his dental tomorrow, please send us your strongest vibes and well wishes.
Tolly is 12 years old, he has a seizure disorder for which he takes phenobarbital (for the past 9 years). He has liver damage from the phenobarbital, which is being controlled with denosyl.
At his four month check up on February 8th, the vet found a heart murmur, this is brand new, and she said on a grade 1-4 she would give it less than a 1. It was not there four months ago. (this is why my cats, the healthy ones, get check ups every six months. Tolly was at every three months and recently graduated to every four)
Of course I worry about the anesthesia, though I trust my vet, she uses sevoflurane gas anesthesia, the safest and fastest acting available.
Tolly doesn't have many teeth left due to FORL (also called resorptive lesions or neck lesions) problems in the past. He has no signs of any resorptive lesions at the present time, but there's lots of tartar, he is prone to it, in spite of my efforts of home care, and his gums are starting to show some gingivitis.
Vet does not think he needs any extractions, but of course won't know for sure until she sees what's under the tartar.
Vet does not think Tolly's teeth are bothering him yet, but I disagree. When his teeth hurt he doesn't want to eat his canned food, he only wants kibble.
When his teeth hurt he runs away or protests when he has to take his pills. That's the only time, he's always been an angel taking his pills, thank goodness, since he has been taking two or three a day most of his life. But when his teeth are bothering him, he doens't like to take them.
Also, when his teeth hurt, he plays less.
All of these things I have been observing recently, so since his blood work shows everything in normal range, he's getting the dental tomorrow.
Anyway I guess that got kind of long, haha. Please send out those loving TCS vibes for my Tolly Sweet Pea tomorrow, I know they work, and they also help me, too.
Thank you from me and Tolly.
