Have you ever had to put something back at the cashiers because you didn't have enough $$?

I've done that when I went to pay only to realize I had left my debit card at home. I ended up paying cash of which I carry very little. Embarrassing, yes, as I stood at the register digging through my purse for whatever money I could scrap together after going through "would you take this off, please?, and could we put this back? Ok, what's the total now? oops, let's take this off, as well", as the line behind me grew longer and longer! Not a mistake I will repeat! I now have a perfect little wallet/change purse for my purse that neatly stores all my id including debit and credit card.

I have probably told some of you this before but the only time was when we changed our currency from Pounds, Shillings and Pence to the decimal system (yes I'm old enough to remember that). A sixpence used to be worth just that - six pence. Under the decimal system my shiny silver sixpence was worth on two and a half new pence. Except at 7 years old I didn't know this. So I collected my six pence worth of sweets and took them to the counter in the shop only to be told that I had to take them back - I had only got two and a half pence to spend. I may only have been 7, but I was old enough to feel totally humiliated.
