I was going to say that almost all kitties cry on the way to the vets.
Also sounds like pancreatitis which is painful. Did they send you home with: Cerenia (antinausea), pain meds like buprenorphine and have they suggested Pepcid? These three together help to keep the cat more comfortable while we wait for the pancreatitis to work it's way out. Sometimes they do antibiotics incase of infection.
The last thing did they suggest sub fluids? The gold standard in pancreatitis is fluids/pain meds/food/anti nausea meds.
Some vets don't use appetite stimulant until after the anti nausea meds have kicked in. If a cat feels upset tummy they won't eat even with the appetite stimulant.
you can try these foods: baby food meat flavors (no onion/garlic). Plain unsweetened yogurt. Goats milk-no human milk, KMR-kitten milk replacement-get the powder one-mix it in warm water and add to pate style wet cat food=stir with a fork-this may help wet appetite. Plain unsweetened Pedialite (sp?).
Rotisserie chicken-no bones. Skin is discouraged but my gal loved the skin. Cooked chicken or turkey or ham or pork. Cheese pieces. canned pumpkin- this helps the bowels-some cats love this-it has good amount of potassium which helps with muscle aches from not moving around a lot from illness/recovery. Also Blue Buffalo has these freeze dried treats-one of my cats that's all she would eat when she was ill was treats.
Some vets will show you how to do sub fluids at home. Caution is used in heart kitties as fluids is a balancing act.
If it's liver issues-the most important thing is to push food. but the need for Cerenia or Zofran or dolasetron (Anzemet) is important as these medications stop the nausea signals from the brain to the stomach. If a cat is nauseous they won't eat. So we need to treat the upset tummy before we force food down them. My girls have good luck with Cerenia. Some cats do better on the other ones listed. Some vets use Pepcid before giving food. my elder cat responded wonderfully on Pepcid. She would NOT eat if we didn't give it to her. and I don't recommend transdermal version of Pepcid-stick to pill or injections-if pill-get some small empty gelcaps=very bitter tasting-don't mix in food. And a pill popper. Makes life so much easier. I got mine on amazon.
Also if the vet wants to do a round of antibiotics you will have to plan the meals before the meds otherwise it will cause tummy upset.
how is your baby doing this morning? I know this is a lot of information to take in all at once. I learned the hard way with 3 sick cats so I learned to rotate food and offer bowls/cups of water around the house. One of them loves to drink out of a syringe-she licks the tip as I expel the water. Nutty cat.
I am sorry your baby has been ill but so glad she has gotten IV fluids. Probably the best thing for her to boost her recovery.
