We've been wondering about Oscar for a while. He doesn't answer to his name, seldom miaows and last night he decided he was going to jump up on the high shelf in my bedroom where I keep some stuffed toys. I called him several times and not even a twitch of the ears. I had to wave my hand in front of him to get his attention.
We're not unduly worried that he might be deaf as we've had a deaf cat before - a white cat who was born completely deaf. He'll come running if his favourite treats are about but as I said to my son, he can probably smell them. I tried clapping my hands last night and again, no response.
I'm just glad we got him off the streets and into safety.
