I remember a friend from when I was in university - he was Northern obviously - he was scared in our tiny little university town and a bundle of nerves the few times he was dragged to London - we could barely keep him there an hour let alone talk him into moving there.Originally Posted by Sar

I'm not scared of London or anything, but I'm a total Northerner - I love the people, places and everything!
I visited London on a fairly regular basis, but wouldn't live there whatsoever!!
I have lived in the North and its just a cultural difference - I wanted back in London ASAP - but for him it was funny he came from small Northernwn and was physically scared of London he would look over his shoulders all the time thinking someone was going to attack him etc. It was annoying but amusing at the same time
I'm originally from a pretty small village, but I can't ever imagine being scared like your friend!! Bless him!
Although I prefer the country, I love central Manchester and wouldn't want to live anywhere else for the forseeable future!! It's kind of a combination of city life and country community!

My grandma lives in Manchester so I have spent a fair amount of time there (saying that he was scared of Manchester too thinking he would be shot in Moss-side).
I must admit Manchester does have a special culture - its almost like a step back in time to the days neighbours actually spoke to each other etc. I knwo my grandma and her neighbours do everything together
