Is that really early or are mine taking a longer then normal?Originally Posted by javajane
My kittens eyes are fully opened now. They started opening at 5 days old. They are so cute. It's so fun to watch them grow and then I'll hate to see them go.
Oh thanks for the heads up! I wouldn't want to do anything to hurt thier little eyes. I have a question-Sirabi was born normal size but he seems to be not growing as much as the other. Not a noticable difference just a small difference. He dosent fuss as much when I pick him up and his eyes are still not open. Is this bad or is it normal to have one who is quieter and not as large as the rest? I notice he dosen't get the nipple he wants (that nipple belongs to cash) but he does nurse alot.Originally Posted by gayef
I love the little "winky" stage when their eyes are coming open for the first time! They are just so darn precious!
Be careful when taking flash photography of babies whose eyes are just starting to open - if possible, get the pics in natural light and don't use the flash at all but if you must use the flash, tape a piece of tissue paper over it to diffuse it.

Thanks for the advice it makes me feel a little better. He's not really smaller then the rest per se he just seems not as chunky and more thin I guess. When I pick him up he feels a little lighter. Maybe it's just me being a worry wart because I almost lost him at birth and I think im afraid there's somthing wrong with him because of that. I am a terrible worry wart. He is nursing quite a lot and he defnately has more then doubled his weight but I will keep a close eye on him. I don't like that he is not as agressive as the rest though.Originally Posted by gayef
So long as he is nursing well and not having to fight for a nipple, just keep an eye on him. If the skin under his stomach starts to get a wrinkled look to it or you notice that he isn't nursing as much, then start to supplement. Can you weigh him against the others for the next several days and chart his progress?
Sometimes there is a little "slow" one - my blue point boy was such a kitten. He was the smallest and I noticed that his eyes didn't come open as quickly as the others - but he ended up being a big, beautiful, healthy baby boy and his new people recently sent me some pictures ... he looks exactly like his daddy. *sigh*
