Even more awesome news! Amy at the clinic called us today. She decided to send off the urine sample for culturing and she isn't charging us at all to do it, she really wants to get a move on and get him into surgery before the week is out. She is chasing the best surgeon in Victoria to do the surgery. As for costs she feels it should be a lot lower than we were expecting!

Oh, okay...I see.

That is so nice of them to do that for you! Wishing you and Theodore the best of luck through surgery!

An update: It's been a long hard road to get our boy fixed up and I think we'll see the end of the tunnel tomorrow.  We don't know what the results of the culture was but yesterday, the specialist contacted us again to say that there is a pet medical crisis fund charity here who provide $1000 towards costs of emergency surgery. We are overwhelmed at the support this specialist vet has shown us. So tomorrow Theodore is scheduled for hopefully surgery tomorrow sometime by a skill veterinarian surgeon.

Today he hasn't been so well, we had to catheterize him at home to get him through tonight. This time tomorrow we'll be on the 2.5 hour road to get our boy finally fixed with yet another perineal urethostomy and clear whatever else he has going on in there. I just cannot wait to have my happy boy back again. I am scared of the recovery process and I'm praying that it won't ever stricture again!

So glad you are getting the support you need from this vet.

Sending lots of vibes!
Theodore deserves a chance at a happy, healthy life! I hope surgery goes well.

Thanks! I'll post updates again after it's all gone through and I know anything significant. I almost feel guilty for clogging up the board here with Theodore's dramas :(

you are not clogging up this tread.  I was thrilled to have found this site while I made decisions for Franny.  SO we are all learning together and I will never forget how much people here helped me get to a point that I knew I really tried.  I am still heartbroken 2 1/2 weeks later.  I vacuumed today and started to grab some of her hair to keep.  I will check in and out from time to time to see if I can help someone who felt just like me.  Keep us posted on Theodore...we all want to know...goodnight.

Theodore is out of surgery and it went well. He did have some difficulty as the urethra became so thin it snapped when he was manipulating it. He was able to use another technique and he had to make the opening slightly further up the belly than is normally done. He said that there was a lot of scarring and damage done from the first two surgeries but he was able to remove all that and work further down into the pelvis area. He is really happy with the opening he made and is confident it will be ok. He said he cannot guarantee that it won't close up again but it shouldn't with the way he's done the surgery.  He said he's pretty darned sure we'll never have to look at another catheter again!

So looking forward to picking up our boy tomorrow after a big recovery day in hospital and onto the next stage, recovery and again and few weeks of being terrified.

Theodore is HOME! And he is the happiest cat. And we are the happiest parents! Now for the aftercare.

First of all, he has huge opening which has dissolvable stitches. He has fentanyl pain pain attached to the back leg. They have prescribed him amoxy-clauv for infections and they sent us home with meloxicam. I know I was worried about Meloxicam and I expressed my fears over it. They said it must be given with food, his kidneys are fine and he will only be on it short term for 3-5 days at 0.17ml dose.

When we first called to see if we could come get him and he had a very high temp which they got down to normal over a course of 9 hours. When he was stabilized again he was fine to come home and boy was he happy to see us!

We do have to take him back to our local vet tomorrow to have his temperature checked again, and then again for any issues we might have. The best part is that the hospital he was operated on is open 24/7 so we can call at ANY time if we have any worries at all.

He did a huge puddle of pee in his litterbox and he's been drinking too. And hungry lol.

I am SOO happy!!!

I am very happy that he's home and doing better!!! I thought my cat's bladder issues were bad, but now they seem like a walk in the park. You and your poor kitty have been through a lot, but I am praying praying praying that he makes a full recovery and doesn't have these issues again! :vibes:

It's been 3 days since we bought theodore home. it's been very odd! He certainly isn't back to his bouncy self and I don't expect him to be. Today he has been very quiet but hasn't lost his appetite. What has concerned me the most is that he hasn't used his litterbox at all today. My husband said he wee'd on the bed and he did on the couch last night. He said he'll go when he wants to because he can't really hold it in. I am concerned though. I made appt with the surgeon for a follow-up tomorrow morning but my husband thinks I'm overreacting now and that it will just take a lot longer than last time to get over his major surgery :(

Not long after the last post, he did a wee and a poop in the box! Maybe I am neurotic.

Probably like all of us post major illness, he will have good days and bad days as his body heals and regains its strength. And eating is a good test of how he feels. But you are right to watch him very closely and report any worries to the surgeon. Good luck with the appointment.

Hi Elise, I've been playing catch up on your posts as I was camping and had no service. Wow another surgery!!! I wouldn't be too concerned with the peeing in odd places right away. My boy had to wear diapers for a week because he became temporarily incontinent. I guess they are so irritated. Bless his little heart. He is such a trooper!! The pain meds are most likely the reason he's been quiet.
Prayers are being sent your way! Kisses on your nose Theodore!!!
