So as some of you know a few weeks ago I adopted a new kitten named Bagel. He's healthy now and has been getting free roam of the apartment along with my three year old, Lox. I figured it was time for me to make a thread for BOTH of them (already made a thread of Lox before) not only to document Bagel's growth but also their relationship with each other. Kinda like a photo journal? Maybe? Also, I feel like this thread can go into the Behavior section maybe... Since I am going to document their interactions. But at the same time it'll probably also be a photo dump for each of them, hence the reason I have it in the Fur Pictures section.
The Cats:
This is Lox. She's a three year old tortoiseshell and white DSH. She's an independent woman. Doesn't like being handled too often but when she does she'll be all over you. She's quite outgoing with strangers, granted that you don't force her to be with you. I've had her a little over a year now, and she came from ASPCA HQ. She likes to imitate a cheese wedge.
And here is Bagel, at 15 weeks old. I consider him a red point DLH, He was originally located in a kill-shelter in Tennessee. Eventually a rescue in NYC pulled him and then ended up with me. He had a really bad URI and a coccidia infection but he pulled through. He can be quite a butt but he's still learning how to be cat.
Dynamics:
Lox is definitely alpha! The cats both get free roam of the apartment now. There's no growling or hissing. Lox occasionally stalks and ambush/swats Bagel to let him know he's in her territory and he needs to know his manners. Bagel respects her well, and does not talk back. If there is one person/cat that Bagel will listen to - it's Lox.
This is pretty normal these days. Lox gets the office chair, and Bagel's on the floor. What is she thinking exactly?
"I'm the boss, that's what I'm thinking."
There was one instance however when Bagel was on the office chair Lox came up and decided to hang out with him.
"I better give Lox space!"
Of course, this didn't last too long. Once Bagel moved, Lox got annoyed and swatted him without claws as always. Now, it's been maybe a week and a half since they have gotten full access without supervision. Will they ever become friends? I'm not sure. It took Lox well over six months to get to the point where she would sleep next to me. Perhaps, with time, they may become friends.
"The boss is I."
To be continued.
