Once spring morning, my mother walked out the back door of their house to go to one of her outbuildings to get something from storage, and saw a kitten dart away from the side of the house and disappear into a wood pile. After a little looking around, she was able to determine that there were at least 2, and probably 3 kittens hiding there. She kept an eye on the woodpile all that day and part of the next, and never ever saw a mother cat. We never did find out what happened to her, but the kittens were on their own. Not having anything else, my mother put together some table scrap dishes of baked pork, corn bread and skim milk and sat it out for them. Even with the food sitting there, the kittens refused to come out, so my Mom left it for them. When she went to the kitchen window, she saw that all 3 were at the bowls eating like they were nearly starved. She called me to ask what she should do, so I picked up some canned kitten food and went to see the kids
The first feeding was all it took. When she took food out the second time, 2 of the little furries came out to meet her, and the 3rd came out as soon as she sat the food down. Within 3 days, my Mom had decided to keep Loki, the male, my sister had claimed Vespa, the other female, and Etcetera was riding around the yard on my shoulder like a big-eared pirate parrot
Turvy Demeter (RB) had been the only cat in my one cat household for nearly 10 years when Diva Etcetera D'Calico showed up. Turvy never struck the baby, but spent nearly a week giving her that "Stay back! I don't know you" hiss. Then, one morning, I woke up and found this;
Things changed after Etcetera joined our household. For years, toilet tissue had simply been kept in a basket on the floor; well, that was no longer possible...
The whole world knew that Diva Etcetera D'Calico would one day rule the Jellicle Tribe, when the existence of the "angel's wings" photo surfaced
Over the years as other Jellicles arrived, Turvy Demeter would raise them as her own, but would always make time for her favorite step daughter, Diva Etcetera
With Turvy's passing, there was a period of some confusion as to who would sit upon the Jellicle throne; but in the end, Etcetera claimed her position, and now rules all that she surveys:
One of my favorite features of Etcetera's is the fact that she was born with very little white on her face, and over the years it has spread into a full white blaze.
