Many, many 
 long years ago, when I lived in Spain, and before I was a vegetarian, I was offered a plate of baby eels (angulas) at a Christmas meal.  They were considered a delicacy, and it would have been rude to decline, so I tried them.  Besides...when in Rome...what's the point of traveling if you're not going to try new things, right?    
    But I remember kind of swallowing them pretty much whole with a lot of red wine.
