Hee hee. I feel so evil yet terribly thrilled.
It has been rather cold here lately, so my usual rounds of baking aren't enough to keep the apartment warm. Accordingly, we've had to run the heater more, and man, is it seriously sucking the humidity right out of the air. So, in order to make the air moist enough for me to breathe without my sinuses shriveling, I bought a cold-air humidifier. The fun started when I brought the box in.
I set the box down in the living room and immediately ha 5 kitties surrounding it and snuffling all around it. I put the groceries away and watched them investigate. Smudge even got brave enough to tap the box with his paw a few times, and then Prissy jumped on top of it, making it move and scaring the other kitties so much that they all jumped!
I made her royal highness get off the box and took the humidifier out. Prissy of course claimed the box as her domain, crawling inside and playing "defend the keep". There's not a whole lot that's funnier than watching pudgy Cuddles try to sniff the now-unwrapped humidifier, and then jump about 2 feet straight up when Prissy reaches out of the box and smacks his butt from behind!
Then, I finished setting up the humidifier. It simply soaks water up into a paper like filter, then sends air through it to evaporate the water, sending the moist air into the room. It sits on the floor, and blows the air out and up. I almost died of laughter when every one of my kitties did the same thing: they walked around the kitchen doorway to the back of it and sniffed. Then they started sidestepping around it. Without fail, every one of them jumped when they pushed their face into the airstream! Smudge even hissed and fluffed out his tail!
And the worst part of all, the part that makes me SOoooooOOO evil... Loudmouth sniffed at the humidifier then starting backing straight back, and ended up smooshing her rear up against the empty box.... I couldn't resist... I tapped the top of the box, making it move a little, and she freaked out. Ha ha ha. I'm terrible.
The good news now is that everyone is used to the new thing on the floor. Cuddles will even sit in front of it with his face pointed straight into the airstream. I guess he likes to feel the wind in his fur.
