I noticed about a week ago my kitten had a small swelling on his lip. I had thought maybe he got nicked by play fighting but I see no cuts or abscess in the mouth. I had changed the cat food recently as well. I had replaced the old food (Kit and Kaboodle) with the one we had before (Friskies). So maybe it could be a bad reaction?

It could very well be a reaction to the change in food.  Also, if you're feeding from plastic containers that might be contributing to the problem.  Switching to ceramic, glass, or stainless steel and washing between feedings will help.  I would suggest you get him to the vet to make sure it's nothing more serious.

That looks like it needs a vet. It could be a food allergy but it could also maybe be a rodent ulcer (which is caused by allergies anyway) but I'd definitely get it checked out. It looks pretty nasty poor little guy.
