It doesn't look like I can edit my previous post so here goes:

Just want to note, part of the reason it is $0.33 a day for me, is because I am able to buy meat in bulk (my new best friend is Cash & Carry as well as Safeway!).  I have a cat food freezer, and fill it up each month, I go through a lot of food with 31 cats to feed raw!

I am thinking that this price comparison is just for food.  But...

Litter total = $30 a month (wood stove pellets and non-clumping clay litter)

Toys: $6 a month roughly

Other (pre/probiotics, digestive enzymes, lysine, DE): $20 a month

Vet care: if I were to average it out, maybe it would be $20 a month?  Mine very rarely have heath problems.  I do minimal vaccines, natural flea control (use DE), and all their s/n surgeries were free through a place that does feral/barn/free roaming cats at no cost if you have the cat eartipped.

$0.41 a day if all other care is included (food, litter, toys, "other", vet care).

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
I think my cost of feeding raw will always be higher than some, because I like to buy organic meat when possible, and grass-fed/free range stuff when possible.

This will probably be easier math-wise for people who feed canned or raw - but I'm interested in all perspectives including those who feed dry.  How much do you spend per cat per day?

As it stands right now - based on a 30 day month - I am spending $.74 per cat per day.

3 cans per day x 30 days = 90 cans

60 cans (2 meals/day) Sophistacat at .36 per can = 21.60

30 cans (1 meal/day) high end grain-free at avg price 1.50 per can = 45.00

21.60+45.00=66.60 (total spent per month)

66.60/30 days = 2.22 per day for 3 cats

2.22/3 cats = .74 per day per cat
I had to quote this so I could kind of use your same formula
I've never calculated this before but this is a pretty close guestimate.  The kibble is harder to estimate but I know how much I use per month. I free feed kibble. My 4 indoor only cats get 2 3.5oz cans per day of wet and the feral cat that lives in my garage gets 3 cans per day. I also free feed the feral cat dry kibble in addition to her wet.

11 cans per day x 30 days = 333 cans

(I can't give an exact here because I mix brands of premium foods but I'll base this on my primary wet of Nutro Natural Choice)

11 cans per day of Nutro Natural Choice plus other high end, premium foods at $1.35/can = $14.85 per day or $445.50 per month

Nutro Max kibble = $1.00 per day or $30 per month

$445 + 30 = $475 per month

475/30 = $15.83 per day for 5 cats

$15.83/5 = $3.16 per cat per day

This does not include treats like feline Greenies and other toys etc.  I can't even begin to calculate my litter costs.  My dogs are less expensive to feed but eat more expensive treats.  I won't even go into what my horse eats

Oh Mike - feeding horses has got to be one of the most expensive endeavors ever undertaken by mankind!!!!
And on top of feeding cats & dogs - you're a saint!

Does in food meds count too?

I have 3 cats so aprrox $2.00 a day per cat between 3 cans of wellness wet and the dry food I feed. I figured .75 cents per day per cat for dry food. Wild guess as I am not sure.

Charlie (Babykins) the feral kitten we took in is on a ton of meds for a mysterious cough we can't seem to cure even after a month, So he is now on Doxycycline for 10days and Panacur for 10 days plus extra lysine so his cost per feeding is a little more if you count his additives.

Oh I forgot to count the squirt of Lysine the others get in their wet as well but I think that cost is not worth counting as it is pretty cheap to give.
