My cat Gwenny has idiopathic interstitial cystitis, plus a history of intestinal problems. Before the diagnosis of IC, she had been on Eukanuba Indoor or Hairball dry food, because that was the only food I had found which gave her firm stools. Since the diagnosis, I have been trying to transition her over to wet food, but everything I have done so far has not worked for her--she has had consistantly runny, loose stool, with lots of forcefully ejected gas and gunk. This went on for several months, while I tried different foods and fiber additives. At the vets suggestion, I stopped trying to give her wet food last week and am now trying Purina EN dry. So far, she is better intestinally, but she is peeing out of the box more and I am afraid her IC problems are worsening again. What I need to do is find an effective fiber source that I can mix with wet food. My thinking is, by looking at the ingredients of the Eukanuba hairball--which worked for her intestinally--I could maybe figure out what what would work best for her in wet food. I've already tried enzymes, probiotics, pumpkin, Benefiber and psyllium husks (although maybe not enough), but don't know what else might be useful. I asked the vet, but he said I would have to determine whether soluble or insoluble fiber works best for her. I was wondering if some of you experienced people could look at the ingredients in the Eukanuba and maybe have some suggestions as to what worked for her in the dry food that I could put in the wet. Here are the ingredients for Eukanuba hairball formula:
