Greetings my fellow Feline addicts! Alast a place for us to congregate!
My fiancée and I found a feral momma and her 4 babies in inside our cat. They were 2-3 week old puffs of fur- cut to this afternoon -weeks later they are 13 week old babes heading towards thier new forever homes with fabulous new parents.
Momma has become quite friendly towards me- loves for me to sing to her and pet her. We had a routine. Every morning I feed the babies and Momma, listen to music- let the kitties play with their fabulous scratching posts and kitty condos, cat fishing poles and countless balls and toys- then they'd nap. Afternoon was followed by a light snack, more playing nap and evenings where basically a kitten party with club light, music and lots of playing. Then dinner, and i'd sing them lullabies to sleep whilst rubbing their paws. Yeah tough life!
Momma rather enjoyed her chill out time when the kittens where out of the crate playing like wild cats but as soon as they jumped inside they were all cuddles and kisses.
It was a tearful day for Me and Momma as I saw he last of the babies off to their new homes and families. Momma was crying out for her babies tonight and the sound of her cat weeping and worry shattered me. I explained to her that she could not keep them forever and that she did a great job. She let me pet her and I sung her the lullaby I sung to her kittens- she fell sleep and seems calm after.
I hate to see her sad and her meowing is so loud as if she's saying " where are my chi'ren- gimme back my babies!" How can I help ease the transition?
My plan is for her to be further socialized and domesticated and find her a permanent home.
The kittens and Momma were kept in a swanky state of the art airconditioned shed which is its own cat condo. Momma has not left the inside of her giant crate ever.
I figured she stayed in there while her kittens played outside because it gave her a chance to relax- I don't want her to stay inside the crate forever.
We have a magnificent 17 lb tuxedo cat that is wonderful to humans but hates other cats - hence the shed. I will give her a few days to get use to the shed to herself and will eventually leave the crate door open.
An y thoughts on how to help ease her being kitty-less?
Any ideas on how to get her to step out f the crate?
