Stray wondering

Tonight i noticed that a very cute lil black cat is starting to hang around my boyfriends house. Well tonight after calling for it to come over, he sniffed my hand and started to rub his face on it. So i'm guessing he really isn't a stray.But i wonder if he got lost or strayed away from home. I was just kinda of wondering if i should start giving him some food?? It looks pretty skinny but not horrible. He is the cutest lil thing ever!!
