Hi everyone.

Recently adopted a 7 week old male kitten.. Is he as ud imagine mega playful etc.. But he has started occasional spitting, the same as ud see during very aggressive hissing scratching behaviour, just without that behaviour.

For example, he would be walking along the top of our couch, and once reaching where one of our heads is spit.. No swiping of anything? Its just a bit concerning as previously we've had a male kitten who started this behaviour, but very quickly developed into very aggressive behavior with it.. Any ideas?

Thanks

Your kitten is very young and spitting is just something that young kittens do, sort of their version of hissing. It means absolutely nothing except that the kitten is excited or a little scared and is no indicator of their behavior as adults or even older kittens. What people often describe as aggression in kittens is just normal behavior that can be modified with patience and persistence. All kittens, for example, will scratch and bite, but there are techniques that work to stop that behavior. If you look through recent posts here you will see a number of topics that might be of use to you.

He is a baby kitten :) If you have ever watched young kittens play they do this type of thing often with each other. Fuzz up, hiss, spit, jump around and on each other. Part of bonding, and learning to hunt and defend themselves as they get older. Kittens learn a lot through play. Enjoy him, but a bit of advice, unless you want horrible scratched up hands and arms for the next several months keep him playing with toys, not your hands... :) i found kickers and toys they can wrestle with, as well as wand toys to chase, and small mice that they can jump and carry around to be a big help.

Then once your vet says he is old enough get him neutered. This will help with male aggression, as well as a few other issues.
