We adopted two kittens from a shelter on Saturday - brother and sister, 6-7 months old. They haven't been spayed yet. They have been vaccinated against the herpes virus, calicivirus, chlamydia and leukopenia.
From the first day they have a cold. They have a stuffy nose and sneeze all the time. It hasn't gotten any better yet. Otherwise they seem happy, they eat and play.
Since they're so big already, we're worried about them mating and want to have them spayed as soon as possible. But I'm pretty sure they shouldn't undergo surgery in this state, right? I don't want to endanger them.
Is it easy to recognize if the girl is in heat, so that we could react on time? Is it necessary to separate one of them in a different room for now? They're still getting used to their new home, I don't want to stress them unnecessarily. Especially since the illness could last for weeks...
