So it sort of means like 'Wow!'?Originally Posted by KitEKats4Eva!
When I was a kid a giant male boxing kangaroo found it's way into our back yard and wrecked a lot of stuff in it's terror before it was able to scale the fence and escape down the road. I'll never forget the sight of it bounding away down the street as long as I live. It was HUGE!
I've seen and held Koalas but again, only at wildlife sanctuaries.
Seen loads of kangaroos, though. Sam's right, they really are everywhere they just hide well!
Oh, and `crikey' is an exclamation. Say, for example, you won $1000 someone might say, `Crikey!! Well done!!'. It's a shortened version of `Crikey Moses!' - whatever that means...
its the same where we live in Melbourne and quite alot of kanagroos as wellOriginally Posted by missymotus
There are plenty of them around, not just in zoos.
Crikey means like wholy cow, or wow!! or no way! or what the?!Originally Posted by MoochNNoodles
Ok....what does crikey mean because I really don't know?
I'd like to see a real koala bear! My mom used to sing a song to me about them when I was a kid. Now if I saw a kangaroo, I'd probably stand there with my mouth gaping wide and my eyeballs huge like a dorky tourist taking pictures! But it would be cool too!
Reminds me of all the people who ask if we STILL ride horses to school here. Sheesh.......Originally Posted by MoochNNoodles
I think that happens a lot...gotta love stereotyping sometimes...
Yeah! I know!! I said we have roos in our golf courses etc....just not Koalas! The only time I saw a Koala was at Dream World in Queensland...lol, oh and at the zoo but I don't go to the zoo to see Koalas...Originally Posted by Kumbulu
Sarah! *slap* We DO have roos here. You just have to know where to look. They're in the bush around the television stations in Tuart Hill, a few golf courses in the metro area, Lesmurdie and then there's the one I had a close encouter with on the way to Dwellingup. I have four screws in my arm as a permanent memento.
You should read Bill Bryson's `Down Under'. It's a great book - highly entertaining and with lots of crazy but true facts about Australia. We have SUCH a huge number of deadly, venomous, poisonous snakes, spiders, jellyfish etc here.... I never knew myself how many until I read his book!Originally Posted by MoochNNoodles
Oh my gosh! You all have lots of different stuff than us it sounds like! You can keep the snakes and bugs and scorpions though. I know we have some yucky ones here too, but I live far enough north we don't get a lot. I'll stick with out birds, racoons, foxes, deer, opossums, and the occasional bobcat or cougar or whatever it was that one time!
DH wants to go to Australia next month now!
