What ever you do...
do not use any cleaning products like Lysol.
they contain phenols which are toxic to cat's livers.

Many members use vinegar.
I use a small amount of dish soap and rinse throughly then let dry completely.
When the box begins to get tiny scratches, I replace it because bacteria can hide in the grooves of the scratches.

I think that you will find if you scoop frequently, have enough litter in the box so the urine does not reach the bottom of the box and change it regularly, that urine smell will be greatly reduced.
