Does anyone have any advice as to how I should introduce Jackson to the kitten?
I was also wondering what everyone thougt about Holistic food?
Here is the guidline I recieved from the "meow foundation" when introducing the boys....
Whether you are bringing home your first, second or fifth cat, it is extremely important to prepare ahead of time. Before you make the final decision to add another cat to your household, do take some time to consider whether this is the right thing to do, or in other words, will it be beneficial for your current feline family.
Please think about the following question:
Is your home large enough for all cats to have adequate territory or are any of your current cats suffering from a chronic illness where the added stress of a new cat may cause further health problems, or are any of your cats already suffering behavioural issues such as inappropriate marking?
If you have carefully weighed all the above factors and you are ready to add a new feline family member, the following tips may help a smooth transition and integration, thereby greatly increasing the chances for a successful adoption.
•\tAlways prepare a safe starter or sanctuary room for the new cat. The new cat needs to have a quiet safe spot to become familiar with the scents and sounds of the new house.
•\tThe starter room can be any size with a secure door and ceiling. Be sure to read the information on Escape Prevention.
•\tCat proof the room. Read the Safety Tips sheet.
•\tNew cats are often nervous and like to hide. Cardboard boxes or sheets draped over a couple of chairs to make a tent are ideal in the early days.
•\tPut a t-shirt or a piece of our clothing that contains your scent in the starter room. This helps the cat to get to know you.
•\tPut the food on one side of the room and an open litter box on the other side.
•\tHave at least a one metre new scratching post. Scratching is a natural and comforting behaviour. Your new cat does not want to be stressed by the smells of your current cats on a used post for the first while.
•\tIf the new cat is an adult, you can use a spray product called Feliway. Feliway imitates natural cat pheromones and helps the new cat feel comfortable.
•\tProvide toys such as mice and balls for entertainment when you are not there.
•\tVisit frequently for short periods in the early days. Visiting can be interacting directly with the new cat in the form of play or petting, or quietly readying a book or chatting on the telephone.
•\tIntegration into the rest of the household is dependent on the personality of the new cat and your current cats. Sometimes the integration process can begin in two to four days, but sometimes it is best to wait one to two weeks.
•\tIntegration in multi cat households can be difficult due to the many personalities involved and could take weeks to months to achieve a harmonious balance. For more detailed integration tips read ‘Integrations: Cat meets Cat, Dog or Childâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji].
