Once, I was threecatowner (although everyone knows cats own us). There was Dusty (tuxedo), Mickey (tabby) and Scaredy (tortie).
Dusty developed a sarcoma in 2015 and I lost him in September, 2016 at 16.
Six months later, Mickey (the love of my life) was diagnosed with heart disease. He did extremely well on the meds for a few months, but late summer he began to fail, and I lost him on November 5th. It has been extremely heartbreaking, and I'm still very emotional
I was now "onecatowner", with Scaredy. She was a formal feral, and the reason I joined TCS in 2008. She doesn't like anyone besides me, and despises the dog, so I don't see her a lot.
When we brought the puppy (Lady) home in 2015, the adult cats were not fans. In the end, though, Mickey had begun to play with her, and she was distraught when he left us.
I've always heard cats and dogs can get along better if the cat is a kitten when introduced, so in late November we brought Lady a birthday present. Someone had stuck 4 tiny kittens in a box, taped it up, and left it on the side of the road. Luckily, they were rescued, and we adopted teeny tiny Bug.
It's been a long time since I had a kitten, and she is a wildie, but we are thrilled to have her. She and Lady are besties, which solved a loneliness problem, both for Lady and me.
So, while I'm no longer "threecatowner", I'm happy to say I'm "threepetowner"! And blessed!
