I couldn't find any threads like this, so I thought it'd be alright to make one. c:
Have you ever made anything especially for your kitty? A toy? A bed? Even a creative way to store food or hide the litter box!
Share your furchildren with your creative brainchildren!

Here's Reese with a few (hundred) toys I've made for her:

A catnip and anchovy pizza! The 'crust' is stuffed...with catnip. ;D She loves to carry this thing around.

And a set of fish toys; A shark, a seahorse, a fish, an octopus, and a buncha puffballs.

I'm cheating a little here, since my mom knitted a bird for my old roommate's cat Leia. She filled it with coffee beans since Leia was obsessed with coffee. She was 16 years old at the time and it was the only time I was her play like a kitten.

KarenKat KarenKat - She was adorable!

Well, okay then - I'll cheat a little too. When it became clear that Black Friday and her Daughter Clawed-ya were simply too wild to socialise quickly, and the chicken coop was obviously not spacious enough for the two of them, I had a feral cat shelter built for them:

Toys... Years ago I went to a craft store and bought, feathers, string, buttons, beads, etc. for making cat toys. I keep it all in a little box in my workshop.

I make new stuff for our three cats all the time. Cat toys are expensive and they get bored with them quickly: making toys saves a few bucks.

Every couple of months I get a cardboard box and cut holes in it. I change up the size of box and holes each time.... They love to play in them.

When we renovated our home, we kept the cats in mind. It might seem a bit over the top, but really it amounted to just a few minor design considerations to make the house more cat friendly.

A wide and deep sill/mantle behind the wood stove. Very popular napping spot in winter...

And I made many of the sills extra deep for cat napping

In our tiny reading room/library I made a cat-sized window seat. The window overlooks the street and we have a neighbor across the street who always waves to the cats as she goes by. The cats know her well and often sit up to watch her, its hilarious to see them paying rapt attention her.

Two of our cats are Bengals, they love to be high up... so I built them this perch. Admittedly, this is a bit "over the top," but the cats love it and it is easily removable if we ever move.

It sits above the wood stove and the walkway comes from the loft. It overlooks the patio (and bird feeders!) and living room. This perch is very popular: all three cats use it daily.

When we were renovating the back of the house I put a temporary door in to keep our male Bengal (Makena) out. Whenever I was working in the back, Makena would yowl and scratch the door because he wanted to be with me and see what was going on. Bengals are EXTREMELY LOUD and it was very annoying, but I was doing work that would not have been safe for him to be around. So we comprised: I put a little plastic window in the door so he could watch

It shut him up and we were both a lot happier for the several weeks it took to finish the work.

When we first got Makena he was very anxious: he often used his scratcher for long periods of time when he was upset. He actually broke his scratcher so I made him a heavy duty one, which he loved

I posted some pics of it on a Bengal forum and I got so much interest in it that I eventually started a part time business selling scratchers.

Lastly, our next door neighbor likes Makena and always gets a kick out of watching us walk him. Just recently he used his tractor to cut a walking path for us through the thick brush at the back of his property. Makena loves his new path!

Smokey kept rolling off her scratcher (one of those big petfusion scratchers), so we made her a bigger one.

She loves dry food, so I made some puzzle toys to put treats in (back when she could still eat dry food). I also used to make her feather toys, but after she swallowed and threw up a 6 inch feather toy, she's banned from them.

This’s my goal in life - cat friendly architecture in my future home.

You are truly inspiring bengalcatman bengalcatman . And here I was proud of my homemade cat shelves. I had to screw them into the L-bracket AND into the wall! :rolleyes2:

yeva2292 yeva2292 - Smokey is incredibly beautiful, and her spotted pattern doesn't quite seem to be the expression of the Ts allele. She wouldn't happen to be an Arabian Mau, or a Bahraini Dilmun, would she?

I made Sir and Reese an outdoor window/miniaure cat patio to view the world from our basement! So far they are a bit concerned with the noises of the outdoors but very interested!
