No answers for you on anaemia or anything right now, but before I try and get some sleep (it's 4-30 am here!!!) just wanted to say what a wonderful person you are for all the care you have taken with Silly.   Esp the syringe feeding, hard as it has been, may well have saved his life, and persisting in saying to the vet you felt there was something bothering him and getting them to check his mouth - not giving up as you could have done.   Silly is a very lucky cat despite all he has just been through and I feel confident he will be using all the energy he has to reward you with purrs and demands for fur-attention.    I can only imagine how much relief and happiness you felt when you saw him jump up on that chair of his, meowing and chatting away, and even snacking on some more turkey.    Hoping this is Silly turning a corner and that you will see him go from strength to strength now that nasty suture has been removed.

Yay!!! That is fantastic news! I agree with MServant. You deserve a lot of credit for taking such awesome care of Silly!

My dental vet specialist instructed me to feed my baby girl wet food only so she would not tear her sutures. In Silly's case, it is more important that he eats. Just watch him carefully. I'm so happy it it was easily fixed.

If the wet food was new, it might have caused the diarrhea. I know that ZD gave my cat boy diarhea. It does that to some kitties. You can call your vet and ask what might be causing the slight anemia. It sounds like he is turning the corner! :rub:

My goodness hope you got some sleep!  Thank you, I think I was lucky because I'm working from home right now, I can't imagine how hard it would be not to be able to give round the clock care.  Nasty  suture is right!

Oh yes, he is already demanding spankies and head rubs - he is really a SILLY kitty!

The relief is unreal, I am exhausted from the stress and long nights but he is still having daily diarrhea (vet calling back today), but at least he is eating the dry food happily.

Thanks again for your support!

Thank you!  I honestly wouldn't have had any clue what to do without the internet...I remember after that first vet visit after you wrote about checking mouth/throat and kicking myself because when I brought it up, (and everything else) the vet was quite dismissive...and he was wrong after all.  He dismissed so much that would have guided him to making the right diagnosis.

We tried the wet food at first, but since he wasn't eating it, my first vet and second gave the OK for dry.  You would think after three separate visits post-dental surgery torn sutures/aggravating sutures would have been something they would look at.  Especially because he had a bit of dry food a couple days in, and I kept saying he appeared to be in great pain when I syringed his mouth (I'm praying I'm not the one who tore the suture with my unskilled syringing...oh well...)

I'm hoping the diarrhea is from the wet food, should be formed soon if that is the case!

Thank you for your support!

Silly is super lucky to have you by his side - you deserve all those demands for spankies and head rubs from him.   It must be fantastic to see him so much better.   Hopefully his upset digestive system will settle down soon and then he can get back to being super silly and keeping you entertained as further reward for all you have done to keep him alive and find out the source of his pain this past week.

I hope that Silly is feeling better and that his diarhhea has calmed down. Way to go on taking care of him and advocating on his behalf with the vet!

You're a wonderful pet parent! :D

MServant & ForrestMeows, & catsite, thank you again - so happy to report Silly is still on the mend.

After he had diarrhea about 3 times post syringe feeding, the new vet prescribed Tylosin...this was shortly after we discovered this whole issue was caused by an "unravelled" suture...so naturally I didn't trust this vet entirely because Silly had gotten so many unnecessary meds.

I spoke with the old vet for a second opinion who said to hold off on more meds for another day or so...and voila, he had a semi-normal bm next day.  I was so happy, and no diarrhea since.  He has shown interest in his old food, Orijen, so he is mostly eating that plus a little wet food morning/noon/night.  Now I just keep on the lookout for any negative side effects from Convenia & worsening anemia...

He is definitely much happier too (he plays soccer much like he used to) with me and he and his littermate are best buddies again (by that I mean they tolerate eachother and every now and then snuggle,
).

It is SO nice to see Silly happy again, I won't take it for granted this time!

BEST~

That is great news! Thank you for the update on Silly. That is strange that the Vet prescribed Tylosin for diarhea. Flagyl is used a lot. Flagyl made my cat's diarhea much, much worse. He had an unusual reaction to it though. A new vet (consult) once wanted to prescribe Tylosin for my girl's IBD. I did not feel comfortable with that option. Way to go on getting a second opinion! That was smart. I am so happy Silly is doing well. :D

Fantastic news that Silly and his littermate are best buddies again, and that he's back to playing soccer.   Sounds like you have a healthy, happy cat there.
