My cat has seizures and I know how scary that is, so I can only imagine what it would be like to see a person have one!
My ex-boyfriend had them though, but I never saw one. As he (and the vet) explained it, epilepsy or seizures isn't a disease but a symptom of something else. They traced his back to a brain injury cause by using forceps (sp?) while he was being born but the damage didn't start causing problems until he was in his 20s when he started having them. But, a lot of things can bring them on...medication, dehydration, stress, etc.
I had a small one when I was little. I was playing outside for too long in the middle of summer in the hot sun. I remember walking in the door and the next thing I remember is laying on the floor twitching and my mom trying to hold me still. It only lasted a few seconds but it really scared her. We didn't go to the emergency room, because I seemed fine after that and dad was out of work so no health insurance. But, she called her best friend who is a nurse and she said it was probably the heat and dehydration. Maybe the beginning of heat stroke. I haven't had any problems since.
Many going out to your friend. Let us know how she's doing after you see her. Oh, and wish Oliver a happy b-day for me!
