first of all, hi everybody! now to jump in: i'm moving later this spring, and i'll be traveling by car for about five hours. the problem is my 6 1/2 year old cat peggy, who's been completely traumatized by car rides ever since her leg had to be amputated. it's not that she just gets stressed, either: to put it bluntly, she poops everywhere in a horribly stinky, messy fashion the entire time. it seems like sedating her is my only option, but i'm terrified of hurting my sweet peg in any way :( help a kitty momma out?

My vet prescribed Lorazepam for Comet because he goes ballistic in his carrier. He gets .5 mg 3x daily PRN (as needed) I also use calm away spray from the vet and catnip to tease him in there.

Someone else on the site suggested using a disposable aluminum pan as a litter pan in the carrier. Don't know if it will help, but it might. I had a cat long ago that had to take a tranquilizer for car trips. It just made her sleepy, no long-lasting effect.
