so i need some help trying to stop this behavior, and i can't even really figure out why they're doing it in the first place. we have two cats, neither one are declawed. they have lived in two apartments with us. the first one had wall to wall carpeting in three of the four rooms, and they never scratched at the rug. when we moved, our new place has hard wood floors. we put down an area rug, and they scratched at it very rarely. we recently got a new area rug, and they are tearing this thing to shreds and i don't know why.
i got one of those sprays that is supposed to keep them away, and it works with one of the cats, the other one doesn't seem bothered by it. i tell them no when they do it, and they stop but then will always go back to it. they have scratching posts everywhere that they always use, and i keep their nails nice and trimmed, so i'm not sure why this carpet is so appealing to them. anyone have any ideas on how to stop them from doing this?
