So I was driving to work tonight and was seconds away from being in a horrible car crash. Lucily for me, I'm a highly suspicious driver and don't trust anyone on the road. I take the back road to work and the only area I have to worry about much traffic is about two miles from work when the road I take crosses Kellogg. If any of you have been to Wichita, KS you know that Kellogg is pretty much the busiest street in the city since it runs through the entire city, and is a direct road to the airport and pretty much all the interstates that run through town. As I was coming up to the light, it turned green for the north bound lanes and left turning lane. Being suspicious, I still ALWAYS look both ways before heading through an intersection (I don't stop but I don't really accelerate until I know its clear.) When I looked both ways, I noticed a car heading west on Kellogg was going a little too fast for comfort, so I decided that I'd continue to coast up to the light until I was sure he was going to stop......the truck in the turning lane was not so observational and decided to turn left right when the arrow turned green, well the car the was going too fast ended up slamming into them going about 55mph. I'm guessing the car was going that speed...if not faster because kellogg is 55 until right after the intersection then it goes down to 45. Both the pick-up truck and the car spun several times and ended up hitting one of the traffic light poles then blocking the east bound lanes on kellogg. I'm just glad the passenger count wasn't the opposite then what they were. The truck had a family in it, looked like a grandma, mother, and 3 kids varying in ages, from what I could see, the truck was still in pretty good shape....that car didn't luck out. The entire passenger side was crunched in so much that it looked like the passenger seat was now encroaching on the driver. Thank goodness there was only a driver in the car or else there would have been some serious injuries if not a fatality.
I wish I could have stayed to be a witness but I had to get to work, there were already enough witnesses that they didn't need me but still.
Anyways, I about peed myself. I keep thinking that it could've been me that got hit soo easily, if I hadn't been as watchful or if I had just thought, he has a red light, he'll stop and then accelerate to go through the intersection, it would have been. I bet the pick up still would have been hit since we'd been going through the intersection about the same time if I hadn't been coasting. It had all seemed like it happened in slow motion because my reaction and decision not to accelerate and then the car running the light and the accident it caused all happened in a matter of a second or two. I just had enough time to shift my foot over to the brake incase I decided to stop before it happened. So scary!!
