Yesterday I took my one year old Loki to the vet because I had found some scabs on the footpads of his left back paw. I had noticed brown crusts on that particular paw a couple of days prior but simply assumed he had accidently walked in his poop or something and that he would clean himself eventually. A few days later it was still there so last Sunday I decided to clean it for him and removed what I could (Loki making it extremely difficult for me, lol). Fast-forward to Tuesday and the crusts are back. I manage to get a good look at it and see that it looks more like dried blood and that underneath, the footpad is really sore.
The vet couldn't exactly tell what it was, but suggested that it might be dermatitis (though that wasn't the most usual location for one, he noted) which can be caused by allergies or autoimmune diseases. He advised we start from the bottom and prescribed a cream (Theraderm) to be applied twice a day for a week and see if it gets any better.
I'm mortified right now. What could it be? Anyone here run into a similar problem with their kitty?
I'll *try* to take a picture later, if Loki allows it...
