So, I brought 9 month old Gus home about 3 weeks ago from the shelter. Upon realizing he had explosive diarrhea (and apparently has had a history of it after looking at his vet records), I took him straight to the vet where he stayed for 17 days and took a full 2 weeks worth of metranidazole to treat it. He came back home less than a week ago with *semi* solid stools and obviously feeling better. He is now on a diet of 90% wet food, Hils Science for digestive issues. That, and he nibbles on my resident cat's Nature's Variety dry food. (No grains, low ingredient, made to reduce stool smell)
WELL. Let me tell you. This kitten EATS EVERYTHING. He wants to eat ALL of his wet food, ALL of the dry food in the bowl, and ANYTHING that I am eating at the kitchen table! He stole an ENTIRE piece of ham off of my plate the other day and DEVOURED it whole in less than a few seconds. I have no clue why he is doing this. He is well fed, I am giving him PLENTY to eat. He acts like he is absolutely starving, begging and climbing up me when I even have cookies or something sweet in my hands.
On top of this, since the day I brought him home, his gas and stools are absolutely unbearable. I'm not talking normal kitty poop smells, I'm talking my ENTIRE home is unbearable to be in because of the smell!! Resident kitty won't even sit next to new kitty for too long because of his gas and the stench. His stools are still soft yet formed. Can anyone help me? His tummy is pretty gurgly sometimes, too. He is active and seemingly happy. He loves to play and torment his big brother. I am just worried about his digestive health.
