for Bugsy
Probiotics do not cancel antibiotics, but antibiotics simply kills the bacteria on it, so it just doesn't work.Originally Posted by piikki
I am certainly not a nutrition specialist in any way but probiotics should not cancel antibiotics, and you should be able to give them concurrently. It's just that it can be kinda useless as the antibiotics keep killing the good bacteria you are trying to establish with them. I have not used BeneBac but if Bugsy starts having problems being interested in food, I know all my boys love the Purina Fortiflora if you have not tried it (http://www.google.com/products/catal...d=0CDsQ8wIwAw#) It works like seasoning, and is great aid for sickly cats.
Which ingredients do you see as problematic? Is there something you see as particularly bad or just something that is missing in comparison to Bene-Bac?Originally Posted by Carolina
As far as Fortiflora goes, I don't like the ingredients in it...
What makes Fortiflora so enticing for the cats is its first ingredient, Animal Digest. I do not feed Animal digest for my cats, specially for Bugsy and Hope, who have food allergies and I do not know what is in it. I also do not see the need for salt in probiotics, aside from taste. Bene-bac is also 2x as strong as Fortiflora, and has many different strands of bacteria, which is nice. You can work with Bene-bac on their standard emergency dosage as in the package, which stops diarrhea very fast, or in a smaller daily dose, which I figured by comparing the bacteria amount with other probiotics.Originally Posted by piikki

I went with Fortiflora as it was my vet's recommendation and only learnt about Bene-Bac here later. I think Bene-Bac is supposed to be as enticing, so if it's supposed to be a better product and would work for a picky cat then I might try it next time when needed. It's not like vets aren't known for promoting only exactly the product they have on their shelves.
