Just over a year ago my wife & i decided to adopt a cat from a local R.S.P.C.A centre for the very first time
My wife had already picked our female cat which i had not seen yet
So after a further 2 weeks we got our cat after she had to have some treatment before been allowed home with us
We called her Ruby & the first time she came out of her carrier holder was a amazing sight a beautiful black & white cat who browsed the living room with no fuss
My wife & son & me where so taken by her our house had a new loving presence
After 2months indoors to let ruby get used to the house & us
We let her explore the great outdoors after several weeks she was good as gold coming back to be feed and her confidence grew
The neighbours remarking how great & beautiful she was
Even one neighbour saying his crop of strawberries have never been better since rubys been about to scare off the shrews & mice
I didnt need a alarm clock as ruby would often wake me up with a soft paw across my cheek & the little purring
During the evenings ruby would sit on one of our laps to be stroked as she had a special bond with us and a fantastic trust
Ruby went missing only on monday 2nd November 2015 at 4pm after having her dinner we were prepared to start bringing her in earlier the following day as it got darker & the weather colder
It got to 10pm & she had never been out for so long
i went to look for her no success
the following day ruby still not returned my wife was becoming upset as ruby didnt travel far in the past year
i called the local vet / R.S.P.C.A
& local council just incase early in the morning
i went round the whole estate chapping doors asking by passers have they seen ruby as we thought she may have ran into a garage or shed & had been accidently locked in
after giving up for a short time i walked by a neighbour who hadnt previously been home when i called earlier i asked her & to my horror she had told me she saw a motionless cat 2mins from my house lying next to a fence 40yards from a main road
i quickly ran round no cat to be seen my heart was pounding stomach churning
the neighbour said it was there
i search all over the area in bins in trees & bushes nothing
i called the council again they maintained nothing picked up on their system i was so anxious & going out my head
I waited the following day got up early 7am went round the area to track down the local litter collector to my horror he confirmed ruby had been found dead probably been hit by a car & crawled up the steep grass hill where she lay dying
I started to tremble & could hardly speak the litter collector had told me he called for a hit squad which takes away dead animals
i called the council again still nothing on their system ???
I then revealed to them what i knew & was so angry as their system wasnt working
after i received a phone call from a council supervisor to inform me ruby had been taken to a landfill site
the tears came flooding down i asked why as surely after me trying the day before no one put it in their system & owners should be alerted ruby was chipped & their should be a set time to claim your pets back
The biggest thing that gets to me is if i hadnt bumped into my neighbour i wouldnt have found out ruby had been accidentally killed for peace of mind rather than my family wait for that little meow by the door to let her in torturing us from day to day
our baby girl had been cruelly taken from us & dumped like a piece of waste
When i had to go home & tell my wife ruby had been found & cruelly dumped
we cried our eyes out our gorgeous girl no longer here
my son returned home from work that night and he broke down when told
the bond we had with ruby will never go away shes in our thoughts and we talk about the past year how she brought so much joy & comfort to us
today we picked her best picture & framed it placed it near the tv
to remind us how lucky we were to have known her
we all love you ruby our little star goodnight sleep tight
