Meanwhile, we're preparing for puppy madness around here. It's been a lonnngggg time since we've raised a pup...Melvin (the golden retriever) is going on 7 years old, and Puppy (the lab/chow/rottie) will turn 5 in October of this year. We acquired Mel when he was almost a year, so he had outgrown most of the naughty stuff...well, most anyway.
Puppy was an easy pup...she's smart, and picked up most things immediately, and was never too much trouble.
And then...there's Rita. She's a basset, who are notoriously hard to train, and are extremely food-motivated, and seem to take forever to housetrain. We feel we're somewhat ready to take her on...she'll be a nice addition to our fuzzy family.
Awwww Wookie I just found you on dailydrool. You cant do any better for basset info than that site. When I got Bruno 7 mths ago I had tons of questions especially since Im a cat person and my bf is a dog person so we wanted to make all persons involved happy...Your Rita is a cutie pie..I miss my boy being that small. Cuz they sure do grow fast....If you have any questions or anything feel free to PM me. I might be able to help you with some of those odd lil basset quirky questions you might have. I would also try basset.net its another forum for bassets that can help too...
This is a close up of my baby boy...It might be a big pic because my shrinker has been acting funky and even tho Ive been shrinking them its not saving them that way...But Im sorry ahead of time Im trying to fix the problem now!!
Awww....Everytime I see a Basset baby I want another one! Riley is now around 2 1/2 years and still acts like a baby. I love pretty much all dogs (dog person by nature I suppose) but there's something about the Basset Hound. Riley is communticates with me in a way that no dog ever has...I can't imagine my life without my Basset.
Thanks...I'm still awaiting some updated 4 week-old pictures of Rita. Should arrive somewhere between tonight and Thursday, I'd imagine. I'm DYING to see how much she's changed from 2 weeks ago...she should look very much like a basset at this point, I'd think.
I can't believe Rita is almost a month old! When I met her in person, she was only a week old...and the changes she went through over the week after that were astounding! In 2 weeks, she went from 9 oz. (her birth weight) to 3 lbs!
Anyway, we're loving her from afar currently...we'll be bringing her home on June 1st!
Our basset hound is 3 years old this summer. Scoobie is a mess!!!! We love her to death! I will admit I don't think I have ever seen a more dog though!
