about 2 years ago today, we had to put down our Norwich terrier/cairn terrier mix. She had cushings disease as well as kidney failure. She was an amazing dog, we got her from the shelter when she was about 3, she was used by a backyard breeder, and was in very rough shape. She was covered in fleas, dirt, and ticks and was afraid of men. It was so hard to scold her because if she had an accident or if she thought she did something wrong, she would walk over to a corner stare at the wall and just cry (needless to say we didn’t get upset at her, just tried to comfort her). For about a month we tried ivs so she had fluids, with visits back and forth to the vets. Her last day she was shaking and crying, so we went with the best (and worst) option which was to put her down. We couldn’t let her be in pain. I really miss her. She had an amazing personality, and would even scold the other dogs. After we put her down, and started to leave the vets, I look in one last time, and the vet picked her up and carried her like a baby to the back. We got her cremated. I know she wouldn’t want us to be sad, but it’s really hard not to be. At least she’s not in pain anymore, I miss her dearly
