I am new to this site,my bengal/ragdoll cat had 2 kittens on 12/23/16. 16 days after birth I noticed that 1 of the babies looked flatter than her brother, she also had breathing problems. I immediately rushed her to our veterinarian who performed an exam and couldnt hear lung sounds, so she did a series of xrays and determined that the baby, we are calling her "Polar", had a collapsed lung and pneumonia. The vet told me delicately that I had 2 choice, euthanize Polar, or give antibiotics a try. I went with antibiotics, and supplement feeding. 5 days later Polar went back to the vet and our vet looked at her in complete surprise remarking "She's Alive!" She told me that she really didn't have much hope that she would even survive that first night! And whats better Polar was steady gaining weight and the vet could hear lung sounds! She told me to continue with antibiotics and supplement feedings, but stated that she was still concerned that Polar was "put together differently". That was 2 weeks ago. Polar is steadily gaining about 12 grams a day and walking around. But...she has the rib cage deformity that our vet informed me tonight that she is unfamiliar with. Her sternum is correct but her ribs are not. Looks like we need a specialist but have yet to find one that has any clue what we are talking about!! Anyone out there have any advice for me? I'm so deeply invested in this sweet baby kitty and want her to have the best possible chance at survival!!
