I found this on the Persian Rescue Group I belong to and wanted to save it, but also thought it may come in handy for someone here.
It's the one Kitnhvn Orphan Kitten
Rescue suggests:
Mix together and set aside:
2 pkts of Knox Gelatin
2 cups boiling water
Mix together (whisk after each addition):
4 eggs (yolks only)
4 Tablespoons Plain Yogurt
2 Tablespoons Mayonnaise
2 tsp. light Karo Syrup
1 can (12 oz) evaporated goat milk
1/2 cup canned pumpkin
2 Taurine capsules (open capsules and pour powder into milk mix)
After mixing add the Knox Gelatin you had set aside.
This will keep in your refrigerator for 7 days.... don't panic when
you open the refrigerator and find you have gelatin milk...because
that is what happens to it. I take what I need out, warm back to its
liquid state in the microwave and serve to the babies. They love it.
I have had no diarrhea, refusal to drink formula or other side
effects from this.
For longer storage, freeze in ice cube trays. Two cubes fill a 2 oz
kitten bottle.
This is another variation:
This formula has saved countless orphans.....dogs, cats,
rabbits,
squirrels.even a baby goat and a llama.....it is also excellent
for
putting weight on stressed animals, or ones you just want to bulk
up... it is a much better formula than KMR or First Born....or
Esbilac
1/2 bottle of plain Pedialite
1 can evaporated milk
1 packet of Knox gelatin
4 egg yolks
4 tablespoons mayonnaise (not Miracle Whip)
4 tablespoons Caro syrup (the light colored one)
1 container of plain lowfat yogurt (the individual serving size)
Heat Pedialite in sauce pan until just warm enough to dissolve
the Knox gelatin.. do not boil
Set aside.
Combine all remaining ingredients and blend well.
Then pour in the Pedialite/Knox solution.
I use one of those hand held beverage blenders...
to make sure it is mixed really well.
This is important, because lumps will block a gastric
tube or feeding nipple....it also insures that the Knox is evenly distributed.
It will look like custard when cold, but when warmed,
becomes liquid again.
Keeps in refrigerator at least two weeks..but be sure to only
warm enough for each feeding,
and discard any that has been warmed and not eaten.
As the patient gets older or stronger, you can add in baby rice cereal.
