My 6 month old female went through heat for the first time last week (please note, she has an appt to be spayed next week). We noticed that she was grooming herself a lot more than normal, presumably to make herself look good for a possible mate. After a day or 2, I noticed the fur on her bottom lip/ chin was disappearing and we figured it was the excessive grooming and from her tongue rubbing the fur off during all the licking she was doing. It's been a few days since she's been out of heat and back to her normal self and grooming habits, however her chin (white fur) seems to have scabbed. I try to wipe it but it doesn't seem to help and none of the scab and/or crud comes off. She eats dry food during the day and wet food for dinner. We have recently introduced a new flavor of wet food (same brand) but I'm almost positive the fur-loss and scabbing started before trying the new food (also she doesn't eat new flavor every day). There doesn't appear to be any swelling or zits to make me think it's acne. Any thoughts, suggestions, input? Should I try and pick the scab off?
