Hi all,

My new kitten is nuts about her cat tree. I do however have a concern. There are a few sections of sisal rope on it, and while most of the time she only uses it to sharpen her claws with, ive seen on a few occasions her chewing on the loose strands of the rope. It almost looks like she is using it as dental floss. She isn't constantly chewing on it or anything, but i'm just concerned that she may ingest some of the loose strands. Is a strand here or there something to be concerned with?

I'm really not sure if it's harmful or not. Our cats chew on it also and I have not encountered a problem yet. Maybe you might want to trim off the loose strands to avoid any problems that may occur. Good luck.

Sisal is a plant, and as such would be digested without a problem. It's things such as nylon strings and plastic bags, that aren't digestible, that cause the problems.
