Hello, Hello and Happy Weekend!! 15 October

Let's talk about happy memories. Do you have any mems of exceptional occasions, days, dates? Tell
us about one or more

One of mine is when The Cleveland Indians, now the Guardians, were in the World Series. It had been decades since
they had gone that far. The game we were at was into overtime, it was about 1:00am; Tony Pina hit a home run that won
the game! It was amazing. Patrick and I were huddled under a blanket but screaming and yelling as the whole stadium was well.

We didn't win the Series but it was an awesome season. GO GUARDIANS!!

What about you?

I guess my fondness memory of the past happened in 1985. A couple of weeks prior to Christmas, I was temporarily assigned to attending a two week Airforce school located in Yokota Air Base in Japan. While at Yokota, I received a message from my Commanding Officer directing me too purchase personal gifts for each of the 26 men attached to my Station. The C.O. had sent his own funds ahead of my radio message directing me to do Christmas Shopping. I had free reign($300.00) within reason to make purchases. I was directed too keep quiet about my purchases to members of my unit. I bought Japanese pictured T Shirts, Japanese Silk Screen pictures, a Watch. I was also asked to bring back a minimum of 30 small cans of peanuts, 30, Candy Canes, 30 packages of Hershey Kisses, a Bolt of Red fleece material, a Bolt of white Lace material. Plus 2 American board games. On arriving back to my station I turned everything over to my C.O. On Christmas Morning the whole crew assembled in the galley for Christmas brunch. After the meal. Santa Claus arrived a (Japanese Self Defense Force) Chief Petty Officer accompanied by one of our stations ET1 Elfs. Each member of our unit was given a large "Christmas Stocking" containing a "Gift" along with a can of salted peanuts, candy canes, Hershey kisses and a Christmas Card from a member of the C.O.'s church in San Diego, thanking each of us for our service to our nation. The two board games were Command gifts to the two Japanese detachments stationed also on the Island. My C.O. a Lieutenant Edward Love USCG. Certainly lived up too his name that day.

The C.O. personally made each of the Christmas Stockings on a sewing machine in his quarters. I was somewhat surprised in the gift I received. I have that "Japanese Garden " silk screen hanging in my home. Good memories one doesn’t easily forget.

The day I graduated from high school
The day in 1971 when my enlistment ended and I was cut loose to go home
The day in 1972 when Michele and I got married
The day in 2005 when we closed on our first house, after 33 years of renting
The day in 2011 when Burdock, our first feral, joined us
The days when first Prancer, then Digger, Stretch, Bashful, and Miss Eleanor joined us
The days in 2016 when (a) I (finally) retired, and (b) we got the letter saying that our mortgage was paid off

We went out to dinner; just the two of us. We really aren't the party types, and never have been. In fact, were it not for not wanting to disappoint her mother, we would have eloped.
the ex and I got married in Lake Tahoe, in a casino, Harvey's, ha!! We didn't have a lot of money at that point in time and wanted a nice honeymoon instead of a big wedding. I bet you had your fave pork chop?

Actually, no; we both had ribeye steaks, served medium rare.

Of all the important dates and occasions growing up the most memorable was when our two children were born. I was a workaholic and kept putting off motherhood, that is until DH and I wanted to start our own family. :hearthrob:

When my husband and I got married in 1980, it was HIS mother who badgered us until we found a church to have the wedding in. We were going to go to the JP.

Another fond memory is from the Summer of 1984. That summer I received my first Cat as a single man. As a child I had always loved long haired cats. After much research, I decided on a Maine Coon kitten. I contacted a CFA breeder a Ms. Hannah Dreckman of "Pussyfoot Cattery" in Iowa City, Iowa. She had my future boy. I made a quick trip from Topeka to Iowa City to retrieve "Hobie Cat". He was a "Brown Mackrel Tabby, named after a Catamaran Sailboat that I owned at the time. The Time with Hobie was great. Seeing him grow from a young kitten into a older kitten. Just as we were getting along so good, I received transfered orders to Japan. Knowing that I wouldn't be able to have Hobie with me for 1 year. I asked family members if they would help me out. They all declined. I sought out advice from Ms. Dreckman as I didn't want to give him up. She was such a good hearted and kind person as she offered to take him back into her home "Free of Charge" for my time I was stationed abroad. After I returned stateside in 1986, I contacted Ms. Dreckman as she had Hobie Cat flown to me in Florida. Without Ms. Dreckman's help both Hobie and I would have lost our connection.

Adopting and socialising Toffee and Fudge was definitely one of my highlights so far. I'd never had any animal other than fish before, but I felt like I'd always had cats in about one week into adopting them. Sadly Fudge decided to (as we probably think) rehome himself as he and his brother didn't get along well (in hindsight, they were probably best being adopted in singly rather than as a pair, but the shelter wouldn't have been able to predict what they'd be like together at such a young age!) and I just hope that if he has found another family, he is enjoying his new life. (Many cats often run away during Fireworks Night/November 5 here which was when Fudge went missing.)
