Hi, Happy Saturday.

It's raining here today. I became aware of this fact around 5 am this morning. A few of the long haired cats came back in from their morning border patrol around the enclosure and decided to try and get in bed with me. There's nothing quite like a wet cat trying to sneak under the covers to wake you up in the morning.

:cringe:

How do your cats react to the weather? Do they behave very differently on warm and cold days? Do your indoor cats like to watch the weather through the windows?

My lot go into hibernation in the cold weather, but as it gets warmer they start getting a lot more active. They love the summer, they spend all their time outside.

Hiro is the only cat I've ever met who seems to like rain. A few of the others will sit in the outdoor shelters and watch the rain, but Hiro will be out there wandering around and getting soaked.

He's a strange one.

How about your cats?

Mowgli will stick his nose out the balcony door if it's raining or cold, but no way will he go out there. Our last cat, Jamie, never minded getting wet, so he'd often go out on the balcony, get wet, then come to bed and crawl under the covers. He liked to go for walks in the snow, too. It was never too cold for him to go for a walk.

One of the shelter ferals, Paulchen, loves rain and walks around in it all the time. He also likes to walk through puddles and roll in the mud, so "strange" is an apt description. The other cats get disgusted with him because he's always so dirty and groom him. "Pig-Pen" would have been a good name for him.

My cats are indoor only, no enclosure for them. They do hibernate more in the winter and cool weather. I have lots of cat perches at windows, so they can see outside. In the nice weather, I make sure I have lots of things happening outside their windows. Bird feeders, feed for squirrels and our groundhog George, and so on. I know they would start fighting one another out of boredom otherwise, so I try to keep them entertained. LOL Many times on a warm summer afternoon, I have a cat in every window - napping and sunbathing.

When it is dark, gloomy, rainy or snowy, Artie will just stretch out and sleep.. not much gumption at all.. lazy days for him.

Sunshine, He is very alert and playful.

My two are indoor only. Patches will get very low to the floor 'slink' back to the bedroom and get under the bed when a storm is coming. He started doing that after he had to stay at the vets for several days with fatty liver and get a feeding tube put in. That was almost 6 1/2 years ago and he still does that.

I don't think the weather outdoors has much to do with either of my cats. although Cocoabean is more interested when it's sunny and birds are out her fav window. They also don't seem to be bothered by storms. Casper used to be until Cocoa came to live with us, and she wasn't afraid. Somehow, it rubbed off on him over the years - he could care less now.

Both enjoy when the windows are open and it's the only time I will see them sitting touching each other lol. They are friends, but not cuddle friends.

Gracie sits at the window ! We extended the seals so she can lie their too . She loves watching outside. When the sun is shining (which is rare here unfortuntely ) she'll sit by the door we have open with some netting up. We have an outside enclosure ready in the garden so she can come out when do In the summer so I'll be interested to see what she's like . We put her in there a few days ago however it was a bit windy and she wanted to come in. She's a bit of a snuggle bug and likes to be warm. When we first picked her up I was drawn to her as they said she likes to be warm - I wanted her to be a happy indoor cat !

Link absolutely hates thunder and earthquakes. He usually gets very antsy when it is stormy outside and wants to stay right near me. If there is actually thunder (which isn't very often here) he will hide under his tail right next to me. He also doesn't like fireworks. Which isn't reallt suprising as it fits in with the loud noise category.

None of the kitties react to outdoor conditions - at most, catch an interest at a butterfly or bird outside and that would be it. Liffy used to react a little bit to the sound of coyotes at night (As she was an outdoor semi feral kitten in her previous life, so no wonder) but has since settled just fine. Probably happy to think now "Haha, screw you! Can't eat me now! I'm cozy in this bed!" to them.

Morgana in particular is never deterred by loud or scary noises. She is deaf  a bomb could go off right in the living room , scare the other cats and she would just sit there and be all "Meh" about it.

Ours are "weather wimps." Of course the weather is pretty mild here to begin with but it doesn't take much for ours to turn tail and run back in the house if they stick their delicate little noses outside and encounter rain or wind or temps under 50. Kind of like their humans.

The only noticeable difference around here is that Mooch will burrow under the couch blanket for the first few cold days of winter. Other than that; they act unfazed. Noodles likes when the wind blows leaves around the back patio in the fall. But they've been indoor cats since they were taken in off the street (as tiny kittens) so they don't seem even aware of it most of the time. Thunder or wind might catch their attention here and there; but not regularly.

...with the cats...
let's see...

the first time my little Snick :rbheart: saw snow falling was something i'll never forget. she sat looking out the window, all wide-eyed with wonder, and kept turning her head to look at me...as if she was asking, 'What is that white stuff falling from the sky?' :D our Dude joined our furmily as an adult, so i missed seeing his reaction to the first snow he'd ever seen. :sniffle: both girls, DeeDee and Punky, seemed to think seeing snow falling was the coolest thing ever, and zoomed from window to window throughout the house looking at the snow!

rain seems to be simply annoying for my cats. it many times prevents the windows from being open in the warm weather, and in the cool weather months is damp and chilly.

my Mickey :rbheart: loved to watch the lightening during thunderstorms. :storm: he'd sit on a cat tree in front of the upstairs hall window, watching the lightening light up the sky. :dunno: thunderstorms don't bother Dude, DeeDee, and Punky.

our little DeeDee is sensitive to the cold, like i am. i always say that she and i are 'heat seekers'. :sunshine:
