Yes. It's not served in restaurants, but it is quite common. And no, it does not taste like chicken.

Oh, I had some gator bites in Florida. Tasted like half-bad fishy chicken nuggets. Not really a fan. Perhaps gator tastes better when prepared in a better manner by a better chef, but I can't say my first experience was good.
Snails; first in Morocco and then in Provence, France. Both delicious!
Before I was a vegetarian, I tried some 'interesting' things when I lived in Spain--blood sausage, sea snails, baby eels, octupus. I can't say how any of it tasted since it was a long time ago and I probably washed it all down quickly with a bunch of wine anyway. 
As a vegetarian, the worst fruit I ever smelled was durian. It's supposed to not taste that bad, but I couldn't get past the smell and wouldn't try it.
