Hi there! I'm very new to this site, but I have a silly question.

Does it matter the size of kibble you give a cat? I am switching from Orijen to Essence cat food and I read it was a smaller kibble. My cat is 2 years old and I wasn't sure if small kibble is "too small" for him at his age.

I suppose my worries are he would choke (if that's possible) or throw up if he ate it fast without chewing??

Thanks for reading this far.

Hi!
Not a silly question at all 🙂
If he's a gobbler and eats too fast, you can put a couple clean pingpong balls in his dish to help slow him down. Just give him a small amount at first so you can watch how things go.

Thanks! I have a slow feeder bowl for him and he doesn't mind it. I just didn't know if kibble could be too small for a cat. I will slowly change his food and keep an eye on him!

Most cats will swallow their food without chewing so as long as the kibble isn't huge it doesn't make much of a difference. I have yet to run across a dry kibble that is too big for my crew and I do have a tiny one in the group.
Yeah the Essence food is the size of like, kitten kibble I'd say? Is that alright for an adult cat?

He's more likely to chew a larger kibble which is better than swallowing it whole, no matter what kind of kibble it is.

I have never heard of a healthy cat choking on their cat food.
