OK so here's the situation. My male cat pumpkin suffers from FLUTD as well as IBD and I know because of the IBD that he doesn't absorb nutrients the way he should. In october he went to the vet for his check up and was 9 pounds. On the 8th of this month he got his foot stuck in my recliner and I had to take him to the vet. When he was weighed he was at 7 pounds. A full blood chem and UA was done. Everything came back normal. He is hungry all the time, the problem is I am gone 6-7 hours a day five days a week.
He is on canned food only and has been eating Fancy Feast (their turkey and giblets variety). I know that leaving canned food out is not a good idea but if I want to make sure he gets the proper amount I almost have to. I am concerned about pancreatitis though I don't think he has it. I am more worried with the fact that he might have hyperthyroidism because of his constant hunger and still loosing weight. His T4 was normal.
I also wonder if I am inadvertenly causing the weight loss by not giving him enough to eat. He was eating two cans a day. I have upped it to three cans a which is why I have to leave food out for him when I leave. He gets half a can around 3:30 am then about 8 am and 10am when I leave for work. When I get home he gets food at 6:30, 8:30, 10:30 or 11 depending on his mood.
Any suggestions would be welcome.
