My cat was pulling his hair out on his back and was left w/ a horrible scab. When we took him to the vet, we were told that he was doing this b/c of stress and lonliness. At that time we were in the transistion of moving and working in another city so we'd only see him once or twice a week. Poor guy was so stressed and lonely he was pulling his hair out. If only i'd known!

So in this case it could be stress if you are not leaving him alone for extended amounts of time.
