Is she on a grain-free diet? That might help. Also, we do treat Hannah with nose drops from time to time and it does help.
Your vet needs to do a culture and sensitivity test on your kitty's discharge. The culture will positively diagnose the infection and the sensitivity test will tell the vet which medication will best treat the infection. We had to do 2 rounds of Zenequin, 30 days for each round with a culture and sensitivity test in between each round of antibiotics. Don't treat the infection willy-nilly, find the best antibiotic to treat the infection so your kitty doesn't develop an immunity to any antibiotics it might need later on. You need to get the secondary infection totally cleared up so that you're not running back and forth to the vet and so that your kitty can get well. We were on the sick, treat with an antibiotic, get well, stay well for 2 weeks, then get sick again merry go round for 8 months before we finally went to a vet who recommended the C&S test. That was a lifesaver!
My girl has been confirmed with Pneumonia for the 3rd time this year. She has only been off antibiotics for three weeks this time. I was thinking of using just antibiotic eye drops but haven't at this stage. What drops do you use. the vet has suggested a grain- free diet which will be difficult with her as she refuses to eat cooked or fresh meat. She will only eat dry and canned food which of course is full of grains. This time she has been put on Doxycycline antibiotics for two weeks. Has the grain-free diet made any difference to your cat?
I have told my vet that this problem appears to be rather common! My girl is a pedigreed Oriental who is 6 years old. She was a breeding cat and show exhibit.
Murison, What is the common name for the marbofloxacin as I haven't heard of it where I come from.
Also Murison you mentioned Zenequin. What type of antibiotic is that as once again I haven't heard of it!
Hi Sharon,My cat also has pseudomonas - and it's been a long road.
We've developed (after some time on the drugs) a resistance to Baytril and Clavamox and Ciprofil - and probably one or two others.
They work for a while - he's 'clear' for a while - and then it returns.
The medication he's on now is Zithromax - and that is working to clear him - my only fear is what happens after he becomes resistant to this drug?
I'm contemplating going to the U of Davis, Ca to speak to their vets..
Any more thoughts?
