So, to make a long story short...last night I take one of the cats to the local emergency vet and then on to the University emergency clinic... he vomited two and a half days ago and went downhill from there. Final diagnosis...underlying pancreantitis aggravated by a change in food (twice in 2 months trying to help one of the other cats...all three eating the same stuff) resulted in bile backing up in the liver and developing into bacterial hepetitis (spelling???). Spent the night and all day in ICU and just came from seeing him and speaking with the vet. We switched food in the first place to help the other cat (Buster) and for the first 6 weeks his improved. Then the vomiting and the itching came back so we went from chicken to fish. Now, (two weeks tomorrow since adding the fish) Buster has stopped itching and vomiting (for the time being at least I am betting he starts again) and Neigi landed in the ER in bad shape. We went from Nutro Nat. Choice Senior Care (used that for 3 years or more while Buster was on prednisone) to Californial Natural Chicken dry (took Buster off pred) to Calif. Nat. Herring and Sweet Potato. The vet at the University is suggesing Hill's Prescription Diet Z/D formula. Hypoallergenic and will help keep both sick kitties digestive systems calm. I just looked at the ingredient list and am not overly impressed. I am wondering if anyone has had experience with this food. Thanks for the input.
