Hello all, I am brand new to The Cat Site and made an account specifically to ask for advice from other cat owners. It seems like a wonderful community here.
My question is about my cat, he is almost 15 years old. Last week he started vomiting and having diarrhea which he almost never has. He also refused to drink any water and only ate sparingly. I started to worry and scheduled an appointment with my vet. They took a look at him and even ran a blood test. Everything came back completely normal, but they gave me some medication to give to him for the next few days to help with his vomiting and diarrhea. He didn't like the medication but since then he has gotten better and stopped vomiting etc. He still wouldn't drink any water, so in an attempt to keep him hydrated I started putting extra fresh water in his canned food that he eats twice a day. I was so pleased to see that it worked and he would drink pretty large amounts of water if I put it into his food! Everything was starting to look better until today. I gave him his food as normal but he wouldn't eat it. He looked and it and smelled it and even lapped up a very small amount of it, like maybe a bite or two, but then he turned away and seemed almost repulsed by it. His stomach started growling/making loud noises as well. No matter what I did today, he wouldn't eat or drink. Is this a bad sign? Maybe I'm overthinking things since this is the first time he's flat out refused his food; maybe he just isn't hungry. But I do worry, given his age and whatnot. He is the first cat I've ever owned, I got him when I was 3 years old, I'm 17 now. That's why I wanted to ask my question here, since I see there are a LOT of very experienced cat owners who have dealt with cats both young and old.
Any advice anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thank you to anyone who took the time to read this!
